Ao Peng

Ao Peng, born in Qinhuangdao China, is currently a faculty member in Sun Yat-Sen university, and viola assistant faculty and ensemble coach in Tianjin Juilliard School. He is the founding member of QingXin Ensemble in Tianjin and GCG Ensemble in Shanghai. He won 2nd prize of the 47th Hudson Valley String Competition in 2019. He was also the winner of the concerto competition at the Music Academy of the West in 2016. He toured across South Korea with Richard O’Neill, Yu-Chien Tseng, Daniel Chong and Steven Lin as a member of Ensemble DITTO. He was invited to multiple music festivals such as Perlman Chamber Music Workshop, Kneisel Hall, Music Academy of the West, and Bowdoin Festival. He shared stages with multiple great artists around the world, including Itzhak Perlman, Wei He, Cho-Liang Lin, Richard O’Neill, Yang Shen, David Geber, Elmira Darvarova, Milan Milisavljevic, and Merry Peckham. He was also a member of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy, co-principal at Juilliard Orchestra, and the associate principal in New York String Orchestra Seminar from 2014 to 2015. In 2018, the album “On & Between” he appears in won the gold metal of Global Music Award, along with “Best of Show”, “Best Album” and “Best Instrumentalists”. His recent book “Before the Bell: A Guide of Classical Music” got published and became one of the best-sellings in Sun Yat-Sen University Publishing House.

Ao Peng began his music studies on violin when he was 5, switched to viola at 14. He finished his bachelor degree in Manhattan School of Music studied with Karen Dreyfus and Kazuhide Isomura, and completed his master degree at Juilliard School, studied with department chair Samuel Rhodes.
